For independent residential & commercial door companies

Grow and thrive as an independent.

Door Performance Group has been the standard for independent door owners since 2015 — a small, non-competing, geographically exclusive group that works through the hard decisions together, so you can win in a changing and consolidating industry as a committed independent and local service company.

The kind of question we work on

Is my margin healthy in every line of the business — or just on average?

The standard

Over a decade as the standard for independent door owners.

Door Performance Group began in 2015 with a simple idea: independent owners get stronger when they work through the hard questions together. Ten-plus years later, it is how serious independent door companies stay competitive.

2015

Where it started

E Squared launched the group for independent garage door and dock owners — and has facilitated it ever since.

A proven rhythm

A steady cadence and a real commitment from every member. The group meets in person twice a year for a dynamic, member-driven meeting — Win / Loss / Need updates, best-practice deep dives, open discussion — and we regularly visit member companies to learn on site from them.

A room you can trust

One owner per territory, comparable scale, no direct competitors. That is why members say what they really think — and why the advice is worth having.

Results that compound

Members have doubled revenue, lifted gross profit percentage by more than 30%, built leadership teams and handed businesses to the next generation.

Residential, commercial, or both

One group for every kind of door company.

Members run residential, commercial and mixed businesses. Seeing how the other models compete, price and staff is a big part of the value.

Residential

Service, replacement and installation for homeowners — where pricing, marketing, dispatch and technician quality decide who earns the next call.

Commercial

Service agreements, dock and industrial work, projects and bids — where margin, backlog and recurring revenue shape the business.

Both

Running a mix? Peers compare how the blend affects margin, cash collection and staffing — and how to grow each side without hurting the other.

The questions we’re built to answer

What independent door owners are actually asking.

Not generic advice. A room of peers who have already worked through the same problems, in open and honest conversation.

Register your interest
01Is my margin healthy in every line of the business?
Financial performance

A healthy blended number can hide a weak line — residential service, replacement, installs, commercial contracts, dock. Many owners aren’t sure what “normal” looks like for a company their size.

In the group, peers at your scale and mix talk openly about how they run each line — sharing as much as they’re comfortable with — so you can decide where to push and what to fix.

02How do I pay my leadership team so they think like owners?
Incentive alignment

Incentive plans that tie pay to the results that actually drive the business are one of the biggest levers an owner has — and one of the hardest to design alone.

Members share what has worked (and what backfired), and learn how peers running businesses their size approach pay.

03How do I raise the standard of service — and keep great technicians?
Service & people

Service quality wins customers and holds margin. It depends on hiring, training and retaining technicians and installers — the hardest part of the business for almost every owner.

The group works through hiring, onboarding, training programs and retention with owners who have built them and can show you what to copy.

04Are we growing the right way — or just getting bigger?
Strategic focus

Organic growth, new markets, acquisitions, a different residential and commercial mix, new systems — every option costs cash and management time. The group pressure-tests each decision with owners who have made the same calls, including members who have expanded through M&A.

05Can I stay independent and still compete?
Staying independent

Consolidators and national brands win on scale, systems and discipline. Independents can match that discipline together — shared playbooks, stronger leadership teams, clearer financial visibility — without selling equity or giving up control.

And when you start thinking about what’s next — a family handoff, an internal buyout, or an eventual sale — you will have built a business that can be transferred on your terms.

A changing industry

The industry is consolidating. Independents need a plan.

Private-equity-backed platforms and national brands are buying scale, technicians and market share across residential, commercial and dock. Independent owners need a third option.

Go it alone

Compete against consolidators with more capital, more technology and deeper benches — by yourself, with no one to test your decisions against.

Grow and thrive, together

Learn from real peers, professionalize your financial management, build leaders who can run the business — and decide what’s next on your own timeline.

FAQ

Straight answers.

Anything else you’d like to know before you register? Ask us on your first call.

Who else is in the group?

Independent door company owners of comparable scale — residential, commercial and mixed — with one member per exclusive territory, so you are never sharing a room with a direct competitor.

I only do residential (or only commercial). Is it still a fit?

Yes. Members run residential, commercial or a mix of both. Seeing how other models operate is part of the value, and most of the work — margins, people, systems, leadership — applies to every kind of door business.

Do I have to be thinking about selling?

No. The group is about making independent businesses stronger. Succession and transition planning — a family handoff, an internal buyout, or an eventual sale — is part of the conversation when you want it, but it is never the starting point.

How much time does it take?

Two in-person meetings each year, regular follow-up between them, periodic visits to member companies, and a private channel you use as much or as little as you like. One-on-one financial support is optional and on demand.

How is this different from a trade association or buying group?

It is a small, private group of non-competing owners built around transparency and learning from each other — not a franchise, a buying group or a conference. You share what you’re comfortable sharing, and you keep full ownership and control of your business.

What happens after I register?

A short, confidential conversation to confirm fit — territory, scale and service mix — and answer your questions. Details on membership terms are shared on that first conversation.
